✈️ 🌎 Travel Recs: Cabo San Lucas, MX

Beach, Sunshine, Guacomole, Private Sail, Poolside Drinks…what more can you ask for?

It’s been 2+ years, since I’ve traveled internationally — and as a huge travel lover, the loss of experiencing new places and activities was deeply felt. So, I was stoked when a dear friend decided to have a destination bachelorette in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico!

I had only been to TJ and Ensenada, so was excited to see more of the Baja Coast. I was seriously blown away by the amazingly warm and friendly customer service we received at our hotel, restaurants, car service, and sailing company.

I highly recommend any of the below. These were our favorite spots — We all had an amazing time!

General travel notes for Cabo, MX:

  • Bottled or filtered water at trusted establishments is the way to go! Bring a refillable water bottle for the hotel for easy access.

  • When you arrive to Mexico via plane, they will tear off the bottom portion of a slip of paper (from the paperwork you provided) that you must keep and are required to provide with your departing ticket. Keep it in a safe place!

  • A good portion of the ocean by the hotel beaches are not safe to swim in, due to the strong tides and dangerous undertow. There are designated beaches for swimming and keep an eye out for the signs marking the safety status.

  • As of March 2022, the U.S. required proof of a negative Covid-19 test no more than 24 hours in advance of flight. Luckily, the hotels do a great job of making it easy to procure the test and results are emailed, which you then upload to your airline’s portal as part of the requested documents.

  • Global Entry made returning to the US a breeze! You don’t need to complete any paperwork. However, be prepared to wait in a super long line upon arriving to the SJD airport in Mexico.

  • Los Cabos actually refers two areas: Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo. Cabo San Lucas is the more touristy (“party”) area.

Hotel: Mar del Cabo by Velas Resorts

Mar del Cabo is a boutique hotel and a partner property to the larger all-inclusive Grand Velas Los Cabos hotel next door. It’s also exclusive to ages 16+ and is located midway between Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo. We absolutely fell in love with its beautiful cascading bougainvillea flowers and greenery on the walkway down to the pool and beach (get a visual taste of it here). The colors, patterns, and decor reminded us of something you’d see in the Mediterranean. The staff were extremely helpful and kind and the suites were spacious and comfortable. If you want to use the Grand Velas’ epic infinity pool and swim-up bar next door, you’ll need a day pass. You’ll receive a discount for the inclusive day pass as a partner property visitor (I believe it was something like $159). We didn’t partake, but it looked amazing!

One of the best parts about the pool was that half of it was in the shade. So, you could enjoy the pool all day, swimming from sunny to shady side and back again. We also loved that there was a built-in table and stools in the water to set our drinks and food on. I was introduced to the perfect poolside drink here: the Miami Vice! Half frozen strawberry daiquiri and half frozen piña colada. SO DELICIOUS! There were also lounge chairs, hammocks, and cabanas on the beach ripe for relaxation.

Activity: Sunset Boat Tour with Cabo Sails

A total highlight of our trip! We booked the 35′ Sea Amore Trimaran and our private luxury sail came with a premium open bar, appetizers, and the friendliest staff (shout out to Robert & Pepe!). The tour takes you along the scenic coastal arches and rocks, and if you’re lucky during the whale watching season, you’ll spot whales! Our guide prepped us for disappointment because we were at the end of the whale-watching season, but luck was on our side — because we saw a baby whale doing jumps and a mama whale breach! It was incredible.

Duration: 2.5 hours for sunset tour

Eats: Flora’s Field Kitchen at Flora Farms

Completely outdoors and off-the-beaten path, Flora Farms is beautiful and like eating in a magical garden. The grounds are beautiful and if we had arrived with more time before sunset and our reservation, would definitely have loved to explore it a little more. It also has a few shops on the grounds, a lake, and live music during the evening. Flora Farms caters to all ages and the food is so tasty. I had the most mouth-watering and delightful twice-baked potato with garlic & herbs (takes 40-minutes to prepare and it was hands-down a table favorite) and the sea bass.

Eats:
Acre

Acre is located near Flora Farms and while Flora Farms caters to all ages, Acre is best for adults. Also completely outdoors, Acre’s restaurant is like eating an elegant meal in a very chic jungle treehouse (in the best way possible). It’s a hip scene that feels like you are very “in the know” as you walk through the dimly-lit jungle towards the restaurant. The food was also amazing here! I had the Baja oysters, burrata salad, and grilled prawns. Definitely a different vibe than Flora Farms, but just as enjoyable.

Rental car: BBB Rent a Car

We opted to rent a car and had a great experience with BBB. Great customer service and super easy to work with!
